Cy Twombly is dead. One of my favorite artists of the 20th and 21st-century. I really don’t know what to say right now, and what I will write sounds so high school pretentious. …Some might call his work scribbles and childish, messes and lacking talent, meaning or skill. I’ve had some special moments in front of Twombly works - whether exploring the canvas and trying to figure out what the hell is happening - one of the few artists that made me so do - or surrounding myself in halls of Twombly in Chicago..Philadelphia. His work is chaos, something I’ve learned to embrace despite being a control freak. His work is science, his work is high brow-low brow, beyond brow.
Not sure what else to say, but, perhaps if you lost yourself for a while, removed yourself from this world and allowed yourself to immerse yourself in art and the viewing experience, you’d have some interest. Twombly’s art is for the chaotic and the pretentiously non-pretentious art lover. A lot scientists I know like Twombly.
You’ll be missed, Mr. Twombly.
